SHEILA BURY
Sheila Bury has been making a living from her painting for some 22 years, she lives by the River Don at Sprotbrough in South Yorkshire and draws much of her inspiration from the wildlife and countryside around her.
The local area is rich in history. Sir Walter Scott was inspired to pen his novel 'Ivanhoe' after passing through on his way to Scotland , and indeed the castle of Conisborough, which features in the novel, is just upstream. Humber keels plyed their trade from the ports on the Humber estuary , up the R iver Don to Sheffield and Rotherham.It is also an area of great natural beauty. There are numerous wildlife wetlands and nature reserves.In the imediate vicinity Sprotbrough Flash,Denaby Ings and Potteric Carr.
In 1989 Sheila and her husband Michael had built the 57' narrow-boat 'Sprotbro Painter' it was moored close by their home on Sprotbrough Cut by the bridge.,, and was uses until 2002 as a narrow-boat gallery for Sheila's paintings .
Work has been published in Yorkshire Life; Waterways World; The Artist; Leisure Painter and in local newspapers in Sheffield and Doncaster.
Sheila has held various one-person exhibitions and also accepts personal commissions. She works in oils, water colour, gouache and acrylic - suiting the medium to the subject of the painting.
