SARAH CHANINI have always loved to draw. In mid life I had the chance to study Art seriously. I took an Honours Degree in Fine Art at what was then Exeter College of Art and Design, where I specialised in sculpture. Since graduating in 1989 the desire to paint has overtaken all else. Here are many reasons why I do it; through drawing comes the discovery of Looking and the reward of seeing, NOTICING , marvelling. Finding shape, light, colour and sometimes hidden meaning. Trying to put it down as simply as I can. The canals, their working boats and people, have been a friend for almost 30 years, so it was inevitable that they became a subject for painting, but music and landscape with and without figures are also sources of fascination and delight, and now also still life.
