ROBIN SMITHETT
From an early age I always photographed transport subjects. This included racing cars, steam trains and hot air balloons as well as general landscapes.
I turned to waterways about twenty years ago, becoming fascinated by adding the bright colours of boats to unspoilt landscapes.
My work appears on the front cover photos of the waterway magazines, and most of my work is commissions for many of the major hire boat and hotel boat companies. I have only recently moved to digital capture, as I regard the subject as more important than the medium.
I try to travel round the whole network of waterways each year (by car and on foot), adding new subjects to my library and recording the changing face of the waterways.
I have been involved with hotel boats for over twenty years, including writing a book on their history. This involvement makes up for not having a boat of my own.
I exhibit framed photos of the more pictorial subjects from my library, and am available for commissioned photography of any boats.
