"Pictures painted with Atmosphere, Colour and Nostalgia".

Garth trained as an Engineer, but has returned to Art after a very successful career as Managing Director of a Multi-National Company.

He has been associated with the waterways almost all his life. He lived on a converted narrow boat for five years in the early 60's, was Chairman of the Staffs and Worcs Canal Society, and in 1965 carried out the negotiations for one of the first joint restoration schemes, the 16 locks of the Stourbridge Canal.

Garth's favourite subjects are all nostalgic. He only works in watercolour which he finds fascinating, particularly seeking to capture light, atmosphere, water and exploring the possibilities of colour.

Garth's watercolours can purchased as originals, but many of them are also available as Prints, Greetings and Christmas cards, details of which can be found on his web site

Garth has owned three narrow boats. The first, "Jimmy" was a wooden ex Harvey Taylor motor boat. He and his wife Ann converted it into a floating home in which they lived for five years. The second, Nautilus was a motor in which they installed a steam power unit. It worked after a style "but used an awful lot of coal". The last was a purpose built floating studio, designed in the style of an Edwardian Steam yacht. Polished brass, varnished teak and glass cabin in which steamed round much of the canal system. Garth's canal paintings reflect many of the scenes which he recorded on those trips.

Garth was a founder member of the Guild of Waterway Artists, and its first Chairman.
